DEPRESSION

“A powerful message fitting so well the society we live in”

As the most common mental disorder, depression affects globally more than 300 million people.

The least we can do is be kind to one another.

Your word has power.
Use it carefully.

This short movie was my directorial debut and it was something spontaneous. I woke up one day and said to myself “I need to share this with the world and try to make a change”. So, I asked my sister and cousins to join the project.

The short film touches upon themes like bullying, depression and overthinking. The events are triggered by the constant pressure the main character needs to face at school, but the dramatic switch happens when bullies get under her skin with hurtful messages. Anxiety paints her view on reality darker than it really is.

Reflections

It was such a challenge to direct and film a spontaneous project like this one. We ran to a friend and asked if we would record there because the spacious rooms were perfect for fitting the action, the camera and the lights.

I explored more film-looking angles I never used before.

Besides filming it, it was also a new experience editing-wise. I wanted to show the public the character’s messy memories and I wanted to do it right, so I produced a trailer for the first time.
